Natural Science Class

Offer your child an opportunity to explore the natural world. The Preschool programs have been an integral part of the museum's mission since 1974. This informal science program introduces your child to the natural world through nature walks and hands-on science activities that foster cooperation with others, language development and creative play.

The Preschool Natural Science Class is appropriate for children ages 3 and 4. (Please use child’s birthday as of September 1.) The cost of this 26 hour program is $225 for non-members and $205 for members.

CLASS TOPICS

3 & 4 year olds:
Nature Explorers

Nature Explorers will learn about habitats and ecosystems. From forests to prairies to wetlands, we’ll explore the world around us. Using songs, finger plays, and stories
we’ll discover how animals and plants make up a habitat, and how they adapt to that habitat. We’ll learn how animals that are awake at night cope with living in the dark. We’ll dig into dinosaurs and fossils. We’ll watch the season as it changes into fall and heads toward winter. We’ll talk about our responsibility to nature, and what we can do to help the plants and animals around us. We’ll explore the many different habitats on the sanctuary,
and get up close to living animal visitors.
