WFAA Family First Day in the Community at

The Heard's “Green Living Family Festival”

April 26 – 27, 2008

 

Ongoing Throughout the Weekend

  • Visit with over 28 “green” vendors; get ideas; purchase some of their products and services
  • Enjoy refreshments from the Heard Concession Stand, The Great Outdoors Restaurant, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, and Smoothie King
  • Take the kids to the free Ponies & Pals Petting Zoo
  • Get your face painted by the students from the McKinney High School National Art Honors Society
  • Enjoy a 25' long inflatable slide
  • Visit the Heard's new “Live Animals of the World Conservation Exhibit”
  • Take a hike on any of the Heard's 6-miles of hiking trails (guided tours available; times TBA)
  • Enjoy interactive live animal talks (times TBA)
  • Shop the museum's store and purchase some plants remaining from the Heard's Spring Plant Sale
  • Browse the indoor dinosaur and snake exhibits

 

Special Presentations and Performance

Saturday

  • Meet News 8 Personalities – 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Listen to the acapella sounds of the Lovejoy High School Choir – 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. – outdoor kiosk
  • Hear the Nationally Renowned Author of “It's Easy Being Green,” Crissy Trask, speak on “Waste and Consumption” from 11 a.m. to noon in Laughlin Hall. Afterwards, purchase a signed copy of her book.
  • Enjoy an “Eco-Sensitive Fashion Show” hosted by REI on the WFAA main stage 12:15 p.m.
  • Relax to the sounds of the McKinney Community Band – 1 to 1:45 p.m. – outdoor kiosk
  • Hear sustainability expert Paul Westbook's presentation on “Efficient and Sustainable Home Design” – 1 to 2 p.m., Laughlin Hall
  • Enjoy the music of the Blackland Prairie Band from 2 to 3:45 p.m. in the outdoor kiosk
  • Close out the event while enjoying the sounds of guitarist Paul Gorman – 4 to 5 p.m., outdoor kiosk

 

Sunday

  • Participate in the fun as KLTY stages a live remote from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Main Stage
  • Enjoy love music from1 to 3 p.m. by Diversity Music Entertainment Felipe Villalon & Cristian Cuevas – outdoor kiosk
