Aqua Quest II
Investigate aquatic ecosystems, their impact on the local environment and their importance as a haven for a diverse set of living organisms. Students will use dip-nets, plankton tows, Secchi disks and microscopes to survey and evaluate the health of an aquatic habitat on the Heard Sanctuary.
Native Plant II
Could the world survive without plants? What role do plants play in the water, air and food cycles? How do plants make their own food, anyway? What plants are key ingredients in many household items? Students will discover the answer to these questions by exploring a variety of plants found on the sanctuary and engaging in hands-on activities that include dyeing yarn with natural plant pigments.
Bird Biology II
Students will practice techniques used by wildlife biologists as they study the amazing life and awesome adaptations of birds with bird bones, beaks and other artifacts. Then, aided with binoculars and the supervision of a staff biologist, students will observe and record data as they census the bird population on the Heard Sanctuary.
Environmental Science II
Point and non point pollution, as well as precipitation, deposition, weathering & erosion will all be covered in this fun filled, hands on, earth science lab.
