The Heard’s mission is to inspire children to discover, enjoy, experience, and restore our priceless environment. Heard Summer Camps will feature opportunities to delve into the wonders of nature on our 289-acre sanctuary, encounter animal ambassadors, investigate nature-themed topics, and more!

Studies have shown that spending time outdoors is not only fun for our children, but also plays an important role in many facets of child development.

Nature Camps
Ages 5 to 12 years | Time 9:30am—2:30pm | Tuition $210/members, $235/non-members

Explore the wonders of the outdoors! Campers will take daily nature hikes on our 289-acre sanctuary, get up close and personal with our education animals, and investigate different nature-themed topics every day. Campers aged 5-12 years have two different themed nature camps, Camp Tortoise and Camp Coatimundi, to pick from — experience one or both camps for a variety of age-appropriate lessons and activities.

Camp Tortoise

Dates:

Topics include: Scale Tales – all things reptile; Quake, Rattle & Roll – nature’s forces: earthquakes, tornadoes & more; The Duck Stops Here – wetland exploration; Prairies, Inc. – native plants and animals; Wings ‘n Things – different ways animals move.

 

Camp Coatimundi

Dates:

     - June 24-28 Register>

     - July 8-12 Register>

Topics include: Mammals R Us – what’s special about mammals; Bones & Stones – study of rocks and fossils; Soggy Bottoms – pond studies; Spineless Wonders – animals without backbones; Habitracking – animal tracks and signs.

Nature Art Camp

Dates:

Ages 6-12 years | Time 9:30am—12:30pm | Tuition $160/members, $185 non-members
Young artists will follow in the footsteps of great artists such as Audubon and Monet with unique opportunities to draw directly from nature and live animals. No experience required. Art supplies included.

Keeper Camps

10-14 year olds | Time 9:30am – 2:30pm | Tuition $260 members, $285 non-members

Keeper Camp 1

Dates: July 15-19 Register>

Campers experience a behind-the-scenes, hands-on adventure with our education and exhibit animals. Learn about our different animals and what it takes to properly care for them.


Keeper Camp 2
Dates: July 22-26 Register>

Continue your adventure and discover even more about taking care of animals and enriching the lives of our animal ambassadors. Prerequisite: must have attended Keeper Camp 1 or a previous Animal Adventure Camp.
