    Nature Story Times are designed primarily for young children and will introduce a different nature-themed book each week. During most of the story times, a puppet, live animal or enrichment items will be included to enhance the experience. These programs should last approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the book covered. Watch this page for information about stories to be offered.

  • Teacher Appreciation Day

    Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary will host a Teacher Appreciation Day on February 1, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Teachers with an official school ID and one guest per teacher will receive free admission on this day. 

    Pre-registration is required and spots are limited. Click here to register

    To check in at the event, participants will be asked to let our check-in volunteers know the name under which they registered and will be asked to present their corresponding official school ID. Teachers interested in bringing additional guests (beyond the teacher and their guest that receives free admission) are welcome to purchase general admission at the door.

    Please feel to pass this information on to teachers with valid school IDs.

  • Art & Science Workshop: Valentine from the Pantry

    Join us for a unique afternoon creating a beautiful, one-of-a-kind Valentine with local animal artist Leslee Ortega. Using watercolor paint made from pantry items such as paprika, turmeric and coffee, pressed flowers and recycled cardboard, we’ll create beautiful, one-of-a-kind art featuring the threatened Black BearUrsus americanus. Each participant will personalize his or her own project!   • Second Saturday Bird Walk

    Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary
    Monthly Bird Walks at the Heard The Heard Museum and Prairie & Timbers Audubon Society (PTAS) offer guided bird walks on the Heard Sanctuary. Walks begin promptly at 8 AM and last 1.5 hours (with optional extended time if some participants are interested). If you come a few minutes late the group may have already started their walk so it is important to be on time. Walks are included in regular admission and free for Heard Museum members. These bird walks are intended to help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and identification techniques. There will also be plenty of opportunity for questions. Prairie, woodland, and wetland habitats are included in these walks.
