    Walk on Team Heard as we work to show the nation that DFW can boast the most species of wildlife as part of the City Nature Challenge! From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on April 15, we’ll have “coaches” on hand to help you learn how to score points for the Metroplex as you ID species of wildlife on the Heard’s 289-acre sanctuary. You will only need to show up with a smart phone with the iNaturalist app and your love of nature. This event is included in general admission and free for Heard Museum members.   • 3 Hour Wetland Canoe Trails - SOLD OUT

After a safety and canoeing introduction, spend about 40 minutes on a guided trail around the Heard wetlands, followed by free paddle time to explore on your own. Pre-registration required.   • A Tour of the Most Extreme Places in Our Solar System

    Magic Planet Exhibit

    Get ready to dive into learning about some of the coolest, most incredible things ever discovered here on Earth and throughout the Solar System!

    Dr. David Baker, Chair and Professor of Physics at Austin College and Director of the Adams Observatory, will guide us as  we explore the amazing features of our own celestial neighborhood— planets, dwarf planets, satellites, asteroids, comets, Kuiper Belt objects, Oort Cloud icy bodies, and, of course, the Sun itself—and the processes that make them so remarkable. This premiere adult event will feature our new 4-foot diameter Magic Planet digital global display. 

    The museum building will also be open to explore during this event. All participants must be age 21 or older. Two complimentary servings of wine or soda will be provided as will light hors d’oeurves. Parking is free. Pre-registration is required.

  • Second Saturday Bird Walk

    Monthly Bird Walks at the Heard The Heard Museum and Prairie & Timbers Audubon Society (PTAS) offer guided bird walks on the Heard Sanctuary. Walks begin promptly at 8 AM and last 1.5 hours (with optional extended time if some participants are interested). If you come a few minutes late the group may have already started their walk so it is important to be on time. Walks are included in regular admission. These bird walks are intended to help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and identification techniques. There will also be plenty of opportunity for questions. Prairie, woodland, and wetland habitats are included in these walks.

  • Zip Line Day
