    Nature Story Times are designed primarily for young children and will introduce a different nature-themed book each week. During many of the story times, a puppet, live animal or enrichment items will be included to enhance the experience. These programs should last approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the book covered. 

    These programs are included in general admission and free for Heard Museum Members.

    Story Times are available for groups of 10 or more by reservation only. Please contact us at info@heardmuseum.org for more information.

  • Scouting Workshop: Webelos - Into the Wild

    Interested in earning a badge or looking for a fun nature-based activity for your group? Our badge workshops might be just what you need. Each two hour workshop is specifically geared to meet the requirements for the listed organization’s badge, but they are open to any interested groups. Dates offered: September through May, as scheduled. Preregistration required.

  • 2nd Saturday Bird Walk

    If you've ever had an interest in birding but haven't known where to start, this is a great opportunity to learn some basics. This is also a great program for those who have been birding for a while and would like some pointers. Second Saturday Bird Walks are designed to help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and ID techniques.

    No reservations are required, but you must arrive on time (8 a.m.). This walk is included in general admission and is free for Heard Museum members. Second Saturday Bird Walks are only offered September through May each year. For more information about birding at the Heard, click here

  • Guided Trail

    Experience the ecology, geology, flora and fauna of the Heard Sanctuary. Led by our trained guides, your group will spend 45-60 minutes hiking our unique landscape.  Preregistration required.

  • 3 Hour Wetland Canoe Trail

    Experience the amazing diversity in wetland vegetation and wildlife while learning about the history and basics of wetland ecology. After a safety and canoeing introduction, spend about 40 minutes on a guided trail around the Heard wetlands, followed by free paddle time to explore on your own. Pre-registration required.

  • Team Heard - Texas Nature Challenge

    Walk on Team Heard as we work to show the nation that DFW can boast the most species of wildlife as part of the City Nature Challenge! From 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on April 15, we’ll have “coaches” on hand to help you learn how to score points for the Metroplex as you ID species of wildlife on the Heard’s 289-acre sanctuary. You will only need to show up with a smart phone with the iNaturalist app and your love of nature.   • Meet the Plants: 3rd Saturday Nature Talk

    Preview of the Native Plants of the 2017 Heard Plant Sale

    Get a head start! One week before the Heard Spring Plant Sale, come to the Third Saturday Nature Talk and get a personal introduction to the plants we'll feature at the sale. We'll show slides that illustrate blooms and foliage for each plant and provide information about their sizes, growth habits, and cultural preferences. We'll even have some live plants for you to see. You’ll be able to find out which plants will work in your problem areas, and make your wish list. There should be plenty of time to answer your questions. (No sales will take place this day.)

    This program is open to the public and is free with paid general admission or Heard Museum Membership. Many of these programs will have an outside component. Please dress appropriately. These talks begin at 9:30 a.m. unless otherwise listed. Click here to learn more.

    During our Zip Line Days, guests climb a 23 foot tree to our zip platform then proceed to a 487 ft. Zip line. Purchase one ticket ($12 each) for each time you would like to travel down the zip line.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Garrett will be on hand to answer questions and sign books.
