• Scouting Workshop: Junior Girl Scouts - Animal Habitats

    Interested in earning a badge or looking for a fun nature-based activity for your group? Our badge workshops might be just what you need. Each two hour workshop is specifically geared to meet the requirements for the listed organization’s badge, but they are open to any interested groups. Dates offered: September through May, as scheduled. Preregistration required.

    Registration form

    Fee: $15 per scout, $12 per adult.  For every 10 paid scouts, get one (1) adult free. This price includes museum admission for the day. Each scout must have a responsible adult in attendance at the workshop; one adult may bring up to 10 scouts.

  • Ropes Course Adventure Day

    During Adventure Days, guests will be able to participate in the Power Pole, Giant's Ladder, and the Bessie Climbing Tree. The Bessie Climbing Tree has climbing holds attached to a 200 year old Bur Oak and is a unique climbing experience. Individuals and small groups (comprised of nine or less persons) are welcome to participate in our pre-scheduled Adventure Days. Reservations are required for these programs. $35 per person.

  • Nature Story Time

    Nature Story Times are designed primarily for young children and will introduce a different nature-themed book each week. During many of the story times, a puppet, live animal or enrichment items will be included to enhance the experience. These programs should last approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the book covered. 

    These programs are included in general admission and free for Heard Museum Members.

    Story Times are available for groups of 10 or more by reservation only. Please contact us at info@heardmuseum.org for more information.

  • 2nd Saturday Bird Walk

    If you've ever had an interest in birding but haven't known where to start, this is a great opportunity to learn some basics. This is also a great program for those who have been birding for a while and would like some pointers. Second Saturday Bird Walks are designed to help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and ID techniques.

    No reservations are required, but you must arrive on time (8 a.m.). This walk is included in general admission and is free for Heard Museum members. Second Saturday Bird Walks are only offered September through May each year. For more information about birding at the Heard, click here

    On December 10th, 16th and 17th from 6:30-9 P.M., hundreds of families will bundle up and experience Holidays at the Heard, the most unique holiday event in North Texas. Holidays at the Heard brings the beauty of the holiday season into nature. Guests will see lights and holiday décor along a half mile Heard nature trail. In keeping with the Heard’s role as a nature preserve, this light display is designed to enhance, rather than overpower, the sanctuary’s natural beauty. More information coming soon!

  • Third Saturday Nature Talk: Winter Tree Walk

    In the winter, when many plants have lost their leaves, it may seem impossible to identify trees; however, during this hike, you will learn about some of the ways you can identify plants without their foliage.

    These programs (unless otherwise noted) are open to the public and are free with paid general admission or Heard Museum Membership. Many of these programs will have an outside component.     Do you know which birds spend the winter in our area? Would you like to learn how to better identify birds? Come with us on a kid-friendly hike to see what birds are out and about on the sanctuary. You will also make a simple birdfeeder to take home to help attract birds to your backyard.
