    For more than 20 years, veteran and novice gardeners alike have anticipated this rare opportunity to purchase plants from a huge selection of the best plants for North Central Texas gardens at the annual Spring Plant Sale. This year, we are offering natives, hard-to-find herbs, and well-adapted plants. 

    Volunteers from the Native Plant Society of Texas Collin County Chapter and theBlackland Prairie Master Naturalists will be available to help you select your new plants.

  • Nature Story Time

    Nature Story Times are designed primarily for young children and will introduce a different nature-themed book each week. During many of the story times, a puppet, live animal or enrichment items will be included to enhance the experience. These programs should last approximately 30-45 minutes depending on the book covered. 

    These programs are included in general admission and free for Heard Museum Members.

    Story Times are available for groups of 10 or more by reservation only. Please contact us at info@heardmuseum.org for more information.

    Interested in earning a badge or looking for a fun nature-based activity for your group? Our badge workshops might be just what you need. Each two hour workshop is specifically geared to meet the requirements for the listed organization’s badge, but they are open to any interested groups. Dates offered: September through May, as scheduled. Preregistration required.

    Registration form

    Fee: $15 per scout, $12 per adult.  For every 10 paid scouts, get one (1) adult free. This price includes museum admission for the day. Each scout must have a responsible adult in attendance at the workshop; one adult may bring up to 10 scouts.

  • Night Hike

    Explore the thrilling sights, smells, and sounds of night with Heard Trail Guides. Night hikers will be encouraged to sharpen their senses to be able to spot signs of animal life and learn more about the inhabitants of the Heard. Preregistration is required for all night hikes.

    Cost: $14 non-members / $12 Heard Museum Members* (Age 3 years through adult)

  • 2nd Saturday Bird Walk

    If you've ever had an interest in birding but haven't known where to start, this is a great opportunity to learn some basics. This is also a great program for those who have been birding for a while and would like some pointers. Second Saturday Bird Walks are designed to help beginning and intermediate birders with bird spotting and ID techniques.

    No reservations are required, but you must arrive on time (8 a.m.). This walk is included in general admission and is free for Heard Museum members. Second Saturday Bird Walks are only offered September through June each year. For more information about birding at the Heard, click here

  • 3 Hour Wetland Canoe Trail

    Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

    Experience the amazing diversity in wetland vegetation and wildlife while learning about the history and basics of wetland ecology. After a safety and canoeing introduction, spend about 40 minutes on a guided trail around the Heard wetlands, followed by free paddle time to explore on your own. Pre-registration required.

  • Zip Line Day

    During our Zip Line Days, guests climb a 23ft tree to our zip platform then proceed to a 487 ft. zip line. Purchase one ticket ($12 each) for each time you would like to travel down the zip line. Pre-reservations required.

    The museum will close early at 3 p.m. to the public on May 20 to prepare for Date Night at the Heard. (visitors will not be granted entry after 2 p.m.). The museum will not reopen until the special event begins at 6 p.m. (special event tickets required).
