  • Magical Moth Night

    Jul 28th, 2018
    8:00pm - 11:00pm
Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

    Tickets

Experience the magic of moths. These insects are often thought of as being less interesting than their popular lepidopteran cousins, butterflies. But on this night, we’ll dispel this myth and show you the fascinating, flitting world of these winged beauties. Not only are they important pollinators, but they are also excellent indicators of the health of their natural environments.

Magical Moth Night will begin at 8:00pm with Melanie Schuchart, one of our key entomology volunteers, giving an insightful talk about these amazing creatures. After the talk, our trail guides will lead you into the sanctuary to experience the Heard’s nature at night. Your guided hike will end at one of the observation stations, where you’ll be able to study moths firsthand through the use of non-lethal catch and release methods. The diversity of what you will find may come as surprise!

This event will also feature our new 4-foot diameter Magic Planet digital global display as it illustrates the night sky in a whole new way. Light snacks and family-friendly activities, such as face/arm painting and exhibit hall admission, will be included.

    Tickets

$19/non-member; $16/Heard Museum Members* (Age 3 years through adult).

Closed toed shoes, long pants, and bug spray are recommended. Participants will be outdoors for at least an hour.

Children ages 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Hikes are at least an hour long and include varied terrain and may not be suitable for children under 5 years. Admission for toddlers and infants 2 years and under is free, but they must be in a carrier or backpack. Strollers are prohibited.

About Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

The Heard was founded in 1967 by Bessie Heard. Miss Heard was 80 years old when she saw the need to preserve a place where future generations could experience nature. Today, the Heard's mission of bringing nature and people together to discover, enjoy, experience, restore, and preserve our priceless environment is carried out through education, particularly of young people, which emphasizes an appreciation of nature and its conservation.  For more information, visit heardmuseum.org.

When is North Texas Giving Day?

Thursday, September 20, from 6 AM Central – Midnight

Simply go to www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org to give during the donation period.

Why Give During North Texas Giving Day?

When you give via www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org, your donation goes further with bonus funds and prizes. All donations scheduled between September 10th at 8 a.m. and 19th at midnight or given on September 20, 2018 between 6 a.m. and midnight qualify. Your donation triggers opportunities for the Heard to win prizes rewarded at random or for the highest number of donors! This year every dollar given up to $10,000 will be multiplied with bonus funds when donors give online through www.NorthTexasGivingDay.org.

What is North Texas Giving Day?

North Texas Giving Day is Communities Foundation of Texas’ annual 18-hour online giving extravaganza for North Texas. The day is powered by creative nonprofits, social media activism, area wide collaboration, and of course North Texas coming together! North Texas Giving Day’s goal is to help build awareness and support for nonprofits in North Texas, while making giving easy for donors.
