The City of McKinney has issued a “Shelter-in-place” order for all residents and non-essential businesses in City of McKinney thru Wednesday April 1st. The Heard will be closed from 3pm on March 26 through April 1. We plan to reopen on April 2 at 9 a.m. All educational programming has been rescheduled and/or cancelled through April 3.

In the meantime, if you are able, please consider purchasing a Heard Museum membership. Our memberships are largely tax-deductible and your term won't begin until you activate it (meaning that you can wait to activate it until you feel comfortable leaving home). Memberships are available at www.heardmuseum.org/membership. Thank you for your consideration!

While our staff is out of office, we thank you for your patience in our response to any questions you may have.

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing nature and people together to discover, enjoy, experience, restore and preserve our priceless environment.

The Heard was founded in 1967 by Bessie Heard at the age of 80. In a time when the rate of expansion of the Metroplex was slower than today, she foresaw the need to preserve a place where future generations could experience nature.

Today, the Heard's mission of bringing nature and people together is carried out through education, particularly of young people, which emphasizes an appreciation of nature and its conservation. For more information, visit www.heardmuseum.org.

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary staff is closely monitoring the Coronavirus disease 2019 (abbreviated COVID-19) outbreak and implementing any recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). The health and safety of our staff, volunteers and guests is among our top priorities. If you have any additional questions regarding the Coronavirus, we recommend visiting the CDC website for additional resources.

Thank you for your support of the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary and your patience as we continue to respond to this outbreak. Any additional necessary updates to information we provide (other than schedule changes) will be posted to this page.
