Equipped with gentle light features to attract them, we’ll explore the hidden beauty of moths and other nocturnal creatures. This unique event offers an unforgettable look at nature’s most captivating night-time creatures. See the night as you’ve never seen it before!

Night Hike 2/13/26 – Unlucky Lovers

Friday the 13th meets Valentine’s Day meets night hike! Join us for an adults-only themed night hike and learn about the most bizarre and unfortunate animal mating behaviors! We will begin with a presentation about the strangest mating rituals in the animal kingdom, and the mating behaviors of our native wildlife. Then we will go out on our trails for an exploration hike to see if we can spot any wildlife.

Night Hike 7/11/26 – Firefly Walk

Join us for an evening night hike on our trails and learn about fireflies! We will begin with a presentation all about fireflies and our native crepuscular wildlife. Then we will go out on our trails for a sunset exploration hike to see if we can spot any fireflies or crepuscular animals.

Frog Night Hike 3/7/26

The Heard is home to many different species of frogs and toads, and we would love to share them with you! We will start with some fun frog facts, discuss why amphibian species are important, learn some local frog and toad breeding calls, and cover how to listen for frogs out ‘in-the-field’. Once everyone is prepped and ready, we’ll head out and listen for some frog and toad activity on the trail for ourselves!

Night Hike 11/14/25

Explore the thrilling sights, smells, and sounds of night with Heard Trail Guides. Night hikers will be encouraged to sharpen their senses to be able to spot signs of animal life and learn more about the inhabitants of the Heard.

Magical Moth Night

Magical Moth Night – 4/26/26

Join us for a special evening of discovery during the 2026 City Nature Challenge! In partnership with the Trinity River Audubon Center and FIFA, the Heard will be hosting a Moth Night event. Using gentle light features, we will attract and document nocturnal insects while contributing observations to iNaturalist as part of this global bioblitz—come help us showcase the incredible biodiversity of North Texas and welcome visitors to our local nature scene!

Arrive on time to hear a special moth talk and helpful iNat tips from Trinity River Audubon Center.
