More Information

We’re thrilled to host botanist, illustrator, & author Joey Santore as part of his Da Church of Da Living World Tour! You may have also heard of him through his social media presence, “Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t.” Come hang out as Joey talks all things lawn killing and love for prairies!

In this presentation he’ll talk about his perspectives on the inadequacies of lawn culture for anything other than the purposes of dog-****, picnics and sports fields, the benefits of native plants, why modern horticulture itself is disconnected from region and reality, and why the plants that evolved in a place are so fundamentally connected to the climate, soils and other life forms that form the living skin of that region.

Joey Santore travels the world documenting plant life. He is the host and producer of the YouTube channel Crime Pays But Botany Doesn’t and was the host of a small-scale TV show called Kill Your Lawn. He advocates for native plants, building a closer human relationship with Earth’s plant life, and a re-thinking of modern American horticulture and landscaping due to its mundane disconnection from both ecological and biological reality.
