Halloween at the Heard

A Family Fun Night Fundraiser

Experience Collin County’s premier family-friendly Halloween event at Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. Halloween at the Heard features a safe environment to experience the joy of trick-or-treating along the erie Dinosaurs Live! Live-Size Animatronic Dinosaurs trail. Families will enjoy an evening full of fun activities including a presentation of a family-friendly movie on the Heard’s outdoor amphitheater stage.

The museum will close early at 3 p.m. to the public on the day of the event to prepare for Halloween at the Heard. The museum will not reopen until the special event begins at 6 p.m.

Tentative Schedule

  • Enjoy Round 1 of Dinosaur Trail of Treats
  • Jogging strollers recommended; no wheelchairs or walkers.;
  • Please enter the Dinosaur Trail of Treats to the right of the amphitheater.
  • Before or after the movie, stop at each of 10 animatronic dinosaurs.
  • The trick-or-treat trail closes during movie and then reopens after movie. Please respect our volunteers and do not attempt to enter the trail during the movie.
  • Take a photo in your costume with the photo op T-Rex.
  • Explore the museum. You might even have a chance to meet a Heard Animal Ambassador.
  • Visit our “Ghost Town.”
  • Play games and participate in activities.
  • Find a spot to enjoy the outdoor movie.
  • Guests are welcome to sit in the grassy area at the top of the amphitheater.
  • Please use seating space only for seating and move toward the center of the amphitheater so that all guests may have a seat.
  • Delicious food from Texas Roadhouse will be available for purchase while supplies last. Tasty treats will also be available from Kona Ice.

Please note that, for safety reasons, the dinosaur trail of treats, haunted trail, and ghost town are closed from 7-9 p.m. please respect our volunteers and do not attempt to enter these areas during this time.

  • Kids 12 & under can participate in the costume contest on the Amphitheater Stage
  • Contest held in front of the movie screen in the amphitheater.
  • Costume Contest Rules
  • Contest will be divided into 4 groups:
    • 4 Years and Under
    • Ages 5-8
    • Ages 9-12
    • Homemade Costumes (open to Ages 12 and Under)
  • All that choose to enter will be called down by category, and invited to stand in a line across the front of the stage.
  • Our judges will then walk the line, decide on winners, and award prizes.
  • Parents, please inform your children in advance of the contest rules and help ease any disappointment your children may feel if they are not chosen as a contest winner. Our judges make every attempt to be as fair as possible. Thank you!
  • Then, watch a family-friendly movie in the outdoor amphitheater. Call 972-562-5566 for more details.
  • Delicious food from Texas Roadhouse will be available for purchase while supplies last. Tasty treats will also be available from Kona Ice.
  • Little ones will enjoy exploring the museum at this time. Be sure to check out the exhibits! The indoor exhibits will close at the end of the movie.
  • Enjoy Round 2 on the Dinosaur Trail of Treats. Take your flashlights!
  • Visit our “Ghost Town.”
  • Brave souls can take a trail detour through our “Haunted Forest.”
  • The trail is located about halfway through the Dinosaur Trail of Treats.
  • Geared toward older elementary-age children.
  • Continue to enjoy concessions.
  • The last shuttle will run at 10 p.m.

Help us keep our nature preserve clean and pick up your trash. Recycle water bottles, cans and other recyclable items in the blue bins or inside the museum.

This includes persons that arrive with current Halloween at the Heard ticket holders.

Onsite parking is limited; however, a complimentary shuttle will be provided from Sloan Creek Intermediate School to the Heard Museum. Check to see if parking is available in the main lot before proceeding to shuttle service.

 

Please allow extra time in case you need to ride the shuttle.

Please do not park in the bus drive-through lane. Parking is available in a large lot behind the school and in front of the school.

Yes. Bring a printed copy of your tickets. Not doing so will greatly slow your entry.

 

If you did not receive your confirmation email with tickets, please check your spam and junk folders in your email. Then, please contact sjennings@heardmuseum.org

You may wish to bring cash or a credit card in case you would like to purchase tasty food from Texas Roadhouse or Kona Ice.

Many activities are outdoors. Dress appropriately. Bring a flashlight and wear bug spray!

 

Please bring a water-resistant blanket and/or stadium chairs for amphitheater or grassy seating areas. Depending on the weather prior to the event, waterproof seating may be preferred.

 

Help us keep our sanctuary clean and pick up your trash. Recycle water bottles, cans and other recyclable items in the blue bins or inside the museum.
